Jun 1, 2006 (newstodate): Work will start this month on resurfacing the runway of Mongolia's Ulan-Ude Airport.
During the process handling of aircraft will be transferred to the runway of the Ulan-Ude Aircraft Factory, which however requires extra ground transportation of passengers and cargo, extra security and the installation of airfield lighting and airnav facilities to be approved by the authorities.
Lack of adequate funding of the airport projects creates a serious problem for the planning of the process, sources say, and in the meantime larger commercial aircraft will be redirected to Irkutsk instead.
