Jun 7, 2006 (newstodate): Kristianstad Airport in southern Sweden is keen to develop its cargo business.
On May 18 the airport handled six AN-12, one Lockheed Electra and one BAe 146 freighter totalling 28 tonnes of cargo from nearby Volvo factories.
-So far we have targeted the passenger scheduled and charter servicces, but time has come to highlight potentials for developing our cargo business as well, says Jorgen Karlstro, Kristianstad Airport marketing manager.
-Our main asset is an high level of flexibility paired with modest handling charges, and our 2,135 m runway can take aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 757 aircraft.
-So far we have had very varying cargo volumes, but we will definitely launch a marketing campaign from this autumn to identify potential customer, including integrators that require only truck/aircraft transfer of cargo.
-The aiport does not currently have any warehouse facilities, but if a company would establish freighter traffic at the airport we would assign any land as needed, says Mr Karlstrom.
