Jun 16, 2006 (newstodate): Runway repair is scheduled for this summer at Magadan Airport in Russia's northernmost territory.
Work will start on reparing the airport's ailing runway from August 1 and is to be completed with three days from then.
The aiport will not, however, be closed for traffic during the construction work.
Magadan Airport is seeking a role as a transit and re-fuelling stop on routes between Asia and Europe, and is now actively in the market for foreign investments in its infrastructure.
Among the airlines now serving Magadan are Russian Sky and Siberia Airlines, while its home base airline offering flights to Alaska, Mavial Magadan Airlines has gone bankrupt.
