Jun 23, 2006 (newstodate): While sales of Boeing 747 passenger aircraft have long since stalled, Boeing still sells freighter versions of the aircraft.
Latest order in the book has been placed by Cathay Pacific that will take six Boeing 747-400ER Freighters scheduled for delivery beginning in 2008.
These six new-build freighter orders are in addition to the six orders Cathay Pacific had earlier placed with Boeing for 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter modifications. The airline currently operates 14 Boeing 747 freighters.
A total of 120 747-400 Freighters are in service worldwide.
In all its versions, the world's fleet of 747 Freighters, nearly 300 in all, provides about half of today's world's freighter capacity.
