Jun 29, 2006 (newstodate): The Belarusian Government has adopted a 2006-2010 state aviation development program comprising significant investments in the sector.
Under the program, Belarus will acquire modern aircraft for domestic flights, and a Boeing 737.
With the increased aircraft capacity, Belarus plans to open new flights in 2006 to Vienna, in 2007 to Prague and Beijing, in 2008 to Amsterdam and Barcelona, in 2009 to Budapest, and in 2010 to Saloniki.
Among the most high-priority items on the program is also the re-engining of Belarus IL-76 freighters in association with Russian partners.
On the airport side, the program provides for major overhaul and re-equipment in compliance with security requirements of the national airport Minsk, the surrounding area, modernisation of vehicles park, construction of a hotel for passengers, major remodelling of Minsk Aircraft Repairs Plant and its relocation closer to the national airport due to the need to service modern aircraft.
