Jun 15, 2006 (newstodate): Airbus claims a strong position for its aircraft, notably the A320 family, on the fleets of low cost carriers.
With a total of 455 aircraft Airbus accounts for 64 percent of the lcc units, with Boeing holding the remaining 36 percent with a total of 255 aircraft, notably Boeing 737 aircraft.
According to Airbus, 10 low cost carriers account for 30 percent of the passenger volumes in the USA with a population of 290 million people, more than 50 lcc carriers lift about 20 percent of the passenger volumes in Europe with a population of 375 million, while less than 20 lcc carriers account for only five percent of the passenger traffic in Asia that has an aggregated population of some 3.56 bio people.
