Jun 22, 2006 (newstodate): The trend in Lithuania is from pure transportation to out-sourcing and more logistics.
-We are seeing a strong growth in EU-oriented trade, as well as in the trade with the Far East, and our market is gradually maturing, says Edmundas Daukantas, Schenker Lithuania managing director.
-The turn is from pure transportation solutions to supply chain management and logistics, also driven by the marked lack of professional manpower in the industry as many professionals emigrate to positions in Europe.
-This lack of people has forced many exporting companies to out-source their transport and logistics, and this optimises the transport solutions, he says.
During H1, 2006, Schenker Lithuania is seeing a 70 percent growth in volumes, and an increase in staff from 65 to some 80 people, with more to come.
-The first half of the year has been both good and tough, says Mr Daukantas.
