Jun 28, 2006 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo struggles to keep its cargo business at Istanbul Airport up and running after the devastating fire.
-With the handling offices no longer usable, six handling staff are working in two small rooms without natural light. The remaining handling staff have been accommodated at LCAG's sales offices about two kilometres from the airport. WLAN-enabled laptops keep them connected to their customers after Handling's PCs were destroyed in the blaze, says the company in its recent newsletter.
-Lufthansa Cargo's transshipment capacities are now restricted. A mere 3,800 square metres is all that is left of the 19,000 square metres originally available in the cargo terminal, and the space also has to be shared with other carriers.
Lufthansa Cargo currently serves Istanbul with six weekly freighter flights from Cologne and Frankfurt as well as 42 weekly passenger flights from Munich and Frankfurt.
