Jun 22, 2006 (newstodate): There is still little improvement in the situation around cargo at Istanbul's airport after last month's devastating fire.
-Turkish Airlines that was not harmed by the fire is continuing its normal operations, while not accepting any additional airline or cargo besides their own cargoes. Unfortunately nothing is moving towards a solution, says a member of Istanbul's cargo community.
-The old state warehouse TASIS has been reopened, but it does not have sufficient capacity to handle the cargo of the three burnt-down warehouses, so big congestion still reigns at Istanbul Airport's cargo terminal.
-Lufthansa, Emirates, and MNG initially cancelled their cargo flights but later returned to normal operations, helped by the special "Turkish sense of practicality".
-The new import warehouses are operating, solving that part of the problem. Most of the persisting problem concerns exports, but we still manage despite difficulties, he says.
