Jun 8, 2006 (newstodate): While ever-increasing fuel costs constitute a universal threat to the aviation industry, the effects may be especially damaging to Russian airlines.
Russian airlines, generally under-financed, are seeing fuel costs rising by 55-65 percent, sources say, and this is a deadly threat to many of them.
World crude prices are not the only reason. Shortage of Russian kerosene infrastructure, and poor storage and pipeline maintenance add to the plights of the Russian carriers.
As a result, kerosene is about 25 percent more expensive in Russia than in Frankfurt Airport.
