Jun 1, 2006 (newstodate): Big is not always beautiful, and the ongoing mergers in the Finnish forwarding industry will hamper competition.
-Now when we have seen the mergers of DHL/Exel and Frans Maas/DFDS, there are not that many smaller freight forwarders left. In Finland DHL Global Logistics will gain control over almost 50 percent of the exports, says a leading personality in Finland's air cargo industry who prefers to remain anonymous.
-It is terrible if DHL, KNN, Schenker, UPS and DFDS will handle the majority of the airfeight flow.
-The customers may still have their say, however. I am sure that many shippers want individual service, and there remains a business case for small agents who are not yet like cargo supermarkets, he says.
