Jun 16, 2006 (newstodate): Counting the volume of flights, the market share of Europe's low cost operators has been soaring for the last two months, now reaching 16.3 percent according to Eurocontrol statistics.
On an average, lcc operators have gained 2.4 percentage points to their market, with the UK topping the list with 32 percent of flights performed by lcc, followed by Poland and Spain with 21 percent, respectively.
Europe now has 50 lcc operating out of 22 states, and 15 European lcc operators have more than 50 flights every day, compared to 13 only a year ago.
Finland, Poland, Denmark and Latvia has seen their lcc market share up by more than five percentage points, while Hungary, Slovenia and Greece has seen its lcc market declining.
Slovakia is is the national market where country-pair flows are most dominated by lcc operators.
The biggest markets, like the UK, however remain dominated by regular carriers.
