Jun 16, 2006 (newstodate): Aeroflot may not feel forced to place orders for all 22 new longhaul aircraft with either Boeing or Airbus.
Originally favouring the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the airline's board was told to put the decision on hold due to Russian anger with the US stand on the country's admittance to WTO, sources say.
Aeroflot is now awaiting Airbus' information on changes to its A350 aircraft proposal before a decision is taken, but sources say Aeroflot may select a small quantity of the smaller version of the Boeing that becomes available by 2008 already, and complement the fleet by ordering the larger version of a revised Airbus A350, available from 2010/11, if specs are convincing.
The total Aeroflot order is worth about three billion USD.
