Jun 13, 2006 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo reports an increase in cargo volumes for 2006.
-We generated a 20 percent increase in volumes in May, and for the period January-May the increase was 14 percent, says Petur J Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-The single biggest factor affecting the May result was a 22.5 percent increase in exports from Iceland, whereas imports grew by 15 percent. Also transit traffic through Keflavik Airport grew by 16 percent, he says.
-The surge in cargo traffic is partly based on demand for fresh seafood from Iceland, but also reflects the new Icelandair Cargo Boeing 757-200 freighter capacity to and from Brussels, and a sixth freighter frequency to New York, with a call at Halifax on the eastbound sector, says Mr Eiriksson.
