Jun 2, 2006 (newstodate): Last year, Russia's air cargo volume dropped by 4.7 percent to a total of 624,000 tonnes.
Of this 365,000 tonnes was international cargo, and 259,000 tonnes was carried on domestic routes.
The decline in 2005 followed on a similar drop in total volumes in 2004.
Sources say a major reason for the decline is sustained problems with Russian airports' import customs clearance, procedures, and safety, leading importers to prefer routing the air cargo to neighbouring countries for final delivery by trucking or rail into Russia.
