May 23, 2006 (newstodate): Before the end of 2007, the Swedish LFV Group, Luftfartsverket, plans to implement a network of 12 ground stations to provide ADS-B based air traffic control.
This will make Sweden the world's first country to implement the new-generation ATC to enhance airline cost reduction, reduce ATC-caused delays, and benefit the environment through less aircraft fuel consumption.
Com 4 Solutions, a subsidiary of the Swedish CNS Systems, has been selected to implement the nationwide ADS-B network based on VDL Mode 4 standards.
The network of ground stations can support services for ADS-B, TIS-B, FIS-B, GNS-B (DGNSS augmentation) and Point-to-Point communication allowing aircraft equipped with VDL 4-compliant transceivers to lower fuel consumption and reduce flight times.
Experience has proved that the "green approach" can save 250 liters of fuel per aircraft landing.
