May 10, 2006 (newstodate): The Russian Black Sea airport of Sochi is poised for privatisation.
A presidential decree on May 3, unfortunately coinciding with the Armavia aircraft crash, excludes Sochi Airport among Russia's strategic enterprises, and the airport can thus be privatised.
Generating a total of 1.2 mio passengers in 2005, Sochi Airport has two runways of 2,890 and 2,200 m, respectively, and was formerly a military air base.
