May 26, 2006 (newstodate): From June 15, the Russian airport Volgograd will been certified to handle a number of western-built aircraft.
Among the aircraft types now to be admitted at the airport are SAAB 2000, Airbus A321 and Airbus A319.
Imports by Russian airlines of these aircraft have driven Volgograd Airport to seek the new aircraft licensing, but the airport's runway system still needs a major upgrade to facilitate traffic by larger commercial aircraft.
