May 18, 2006 (newstodate): Volga-Dnepr has conducted a global airfreight marketing survey that indicates a demand for 20 IL-76TD-90VD aircraft by 2015.
The IL-76TD-90VD is a re-engined derivate of the versatile IL-76 that was banned from European, US, Australian and Japanese skies by the enactment of Chapter 3 of the ICAO Chicago Convention in 2002 regarding ground noise level restrictions.
The IL-76TD-90VD was first flown in August 2005, and certified by ICAO in January 2006, meeting Chapter 4 noise regulations.
Volga-Dnepr has placed an initial order for two of these 50-tonnes capacity freighters that are now put into global operational use.
