Contracted in February, 2006, after signing a general consulting agreement in November 2005, Lufthansa Consulting will support the airport in actively developing air services with a focus on the international market.
Also part of the contract is consultation on an upgrading of the airport's air transportation infrastructure to meet future demands in the market.
The Russian goverment has announced its full support to developing the airport into the region's largest airport hub, and federal budgets together with private investments will be used for renovating the airport's two existing runways and the building of a third one, in addition to construction of a new terminal.
By Q1, 2007, the airport will open a new 40,000 sq.m. cargo terminal, but plans are already in the pipeline for a further 100,000 sq.m. warehouse at the airport.
