May 17, 2006 (newstodate): Plans for opening of new routes between India, Europe and the US via Stockholm Arlanda are still on hold, due to Indian red tape delays.
While the goal remains for operations to start from this autumn, the traffic rights issue is now taken to governmental levels, and the Swedish party, Swe Fly hopes this will facilitate an early break-through.
Sweden has already granted the traffic rights and operational permits, while the Indian side has still to deliver these in writing after initial oral support to the project.
Plans are for now bankrupt airline Swe-Fly managed by a Swedish law firm, and the Indian lcc SpiceJet to set up a JV to start operations on routes between UK and India via Stockholm, between New York and India via Stockholm, and between Toronto and India via Stockholm.
