May 9, 2006 (newstodate): With limited aircraft capacity, Estonian Air Cargo is keen to develop based on extentive use of road feeder services.
-After Estonia and the other Baltic states became members of the EU, customs formalities have diminished, and lead times from Estonia to and from major European hubs have shortened considerably, says Toomas Orukivi, Estonian Air cargo manager.
-Estonian Air maintains a focus on passengers, so there is often limited cargo capacity on our aircraft. With road feeder services we can easily satisfy customer demands, and now truck cargo between Frankfurt, Paris and other destinations.
-We also truck extensively between Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, and this way we are building up much business with Taiwan, Hong Kong and other overseas markets.
-Based on this philosophy we have signed contracts with cargo GSAs in these markets, and we are also keen to develop business with the USA, initially focusing on specific parts of this huge market, he says.
