May 19, 2006 (newstodate): AmSafe's UK-based affiliate, AmSafe Bridport has been awarded a USD30 million contract by Airbus.
Under the contract, AmSafe Bridport will design one of the world's largest barrier nets for use on the Airbus Military A400M airlifter, with the ability to withstrand the pressure at 9 times natural gravity, 9g.
A safety device designed and installed to protect cockpit crews in the event of shifting cargo, the A400M barrier net is more versatile than the typical barrier net used on commercial freighters and was designed so that it is strong enough to restrain a wide variety of load cases, yet is still flexible enough to be rolled-up and stowed away when not required.
Airbus has orders from Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the UK for a total of 180 military A400M freighter aircraft, to be delivered from 2008.
