May 30, 2006 (newstodate): The Volga-Dnepr Group reportedly urges the Russian aircraft manufacturing conglomerate United Aircraft to build up to 50 new and modernised AN-124 freighters, backed by massive state funding.
The production capacity of the aircraft industry is, however, limited to two aircraft per year, making the prospects and the financial viability rather bleak.
Already operating a fleet of 10 AN-124 aircraft, Volga-Chepr last year placed orders with Aviastar SP aviation plant for five new-generation AN-124-100M-150 freighters.
