May 17, 2006 (newstodate): The planned Joint Venture between Airbus, MIG and Irkut for cargo conversions of ageing A320-family aircraft will target aircraft nearing the D-check dateline.
The D-check will normally be required after some 15 years of operational life, and the high costs incurred will render a cargo conversion a viable option.
Plans are for Irkut to produce the cargo conversion kit, while the actual conversion work will be performed by MIG.
