Apr 7, 2006 (newstodate): The US military pull-out from Iceland by the end of September poses no threat to airline operations.
-We are confident that there will be no real problems for commercial traffic even if it will require much effort to readjust, says Gudjon Arngrimsson, Icelandair director corporate communications.
-We rather consider this an opportunity to increase and optimise the commercial services at the airport. And even if it has not yet been assessed, the US military will leave buildings and an infrastructure that may prove to be important assets in the future development of the airport, he says.
-We are convinced that, through negotiations, the US and the Icelandic officials will solve any issues that may arise during the transition period. We have a strong belief in the future, as also evinced by Icelandair's recent additional orders for new Boeing Dreamliners.
