Apr 20, 2006 (newstodate): For some six months, SAS Cargo has been succesfully testing the new cool chain container, developed by AirContainer, on its route between Copenhagen and Tokyo Narita.
-It has been operated with a temporary air worthiness certificate, but we expect the airworthiness authorities, FAA og EASA, to complete the certification process within a few months, says Ulrik Marschal, SAS Cargo head of corporate communications.
-So far we have ordered five containers as a first production batch, and the containers will initially be operated on SAS flights only.
-The container is built for use on widebody aircraft, currently in the RKN half-size version, but plans are to add a RAP full-size version as warranted by the market.
-There are other container concepts in the segment of temperature-controlled air transports, but we found the AirContainer superior to its competitors, says Mr Marschal.
