Apr 27, 2006 (newstodate): Russia is in dire need for more commercial aircraft.
Russian carriers currently have a total of 5,545 aircraft in their fleets, but only 2,500 are in operational state.
Every year about 400 aircraft are retired, while the Russian aircraft manufacturers produce only six or seven new aircraft, leading to an increasing gap between demand and supply calling for increased imports of western aircraft currently taxed by some 40-50 percent by the customs authorities.
