Apr 12, 2006 (newstodate): Plans are underway for a major expansion of Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport in Russia's Sverdlovsk Region.
Included in the plans is a major maintenance project for one of the airport's two runways, and the other runway will be extended and widened. Plans are further to build a 3rd runway as well.
By Q1, 2007, the airport will open a new 40,00 sq.m. cargo terminal, but plans are already in the pipeline for a further 100,000 sq.m. warehouse at the airport.
Other plans include a new domestic terminal, and an improved airport infrastructure.
In January 2005, Sverdlovsk Koltsovo Airport was designated to become the region's largest airport hub, and the Russian goverment pledged its full support of the project.
