Apr 19, 2006 (newstodate): Oslo Gardermoen Airport has applied to the authorities that an area be reserved for the future construction of a third runway.
The need for a third runway has been assessed by a consultant that points out in a report published last month that the need will arise, only the timing remains uncertain.
If the air traffic continues to grow in an increasingly competitive environment, the need for a third runway will become pertinent between 2020 and 2030. If growth slows down, and competition eases, the timeframe will rather be 2030-2040, the report states.
During January-March, 2006, Oslo Gardermoen Airport generated a total of 47,527 aircraft movements, up 7.8 percent on last year.
In 2005 the airport reported a total of 191,336 aircraft movements, up 2.5 percent on the year before.
