Apr 20, 2006 (newstodate): In cooperation with SAS Cargo, AirContainer has launched a new container to serve the market for temperature controlled air transportation.
In contrast to existing products that rely on dry ice and fanning to keep shipments cool, the new self-sustaining container works with a battery-driven compressor and a thermostat to ensure a pre-set stable inside temperature between 2 and 25 degrees Celsius for more than 36 hours.
-Our estimates, based on a market survey, indicate a global market demand for 15-20,000 units, but we are keen to start gaining momentum within our regional market, and through our cooperation with SAS Cargo we intend to first seek acceptance of the new container among airlines within the WOW Alliance, says Thomas Bjork, AirContainer CEO.
The cool chain container will primarily target the pharma export industries, but AirCargo sees an immediate potential for its product in a wide range of perishables segments as well.
