Apr 5, 2006 (newstodate): Osh Issyk-Kul Airport in Ferghana, Kyrgyzstan, is to be expanded and upgraded.
The Kyrguz government has decided to expand the airport's runway, currently 2,614 m, to allow it to accept larger aircraft that the Boeing 737, Airbus A310, IL-76, TU-134 and TU-154 aircraft it can receive today.
The apron will be expanded, too, to accomodate six aircraft simultaneously, and taxiways will also be improved.
This first phase is to be completed before the end of this year, and the government will seek foreign investments in this and subsequent phases of the modernisation program.
