Apr 26, 2006 (newstodate): There is absolutely a need for more air cargo capacity to and from the Faroe Islands, and the introduction of the new carrier, FaroeJet, is most timely.
-Since Maersk Air Cargo left the Faroe Islands, we have experienced a scarcity of cargo capacity even if Atlantic Airways has increased its production, says Joel undir Leitinum, Samskip managing director.
-Atlantic Airways filled the hole in capacity left by Maersk Air, but it is still insufficient, he says.
-There is definitely a demand for the cargo services of FaroeJet, both for imports and for the Faroese export of fresh fish. The actual size of the market is, however, difficult to assess as it only shows in response to the capacity thrown in. Forwarders and exporters are not likely to make commitments beforehand, says mr Leitinum.
