Apr 26, 2006 (newstodate): Not contesting the latest story on newstodate that showed a decline in air cargo at Stockholm Arlanda by 42.1 percent during January-March, 2006, the Swedish Luftfartsverket is keen to add more encouraging details to the picture.
-The statistics published by LFV only verify the flown cargo, which has declined in Q1, 2006, as Lufthansa Cargo withdrew its Airbus A300F service in favour of a blocked space solution on a DHL B757F. Even if this shortfall of tonnage was to some extent remedied by the introduction from November 5, 2005, of British Airways World Cargo's A300F European Shorthaul Freighter service at Stockholm, the net result was indeed a marked decrease, says Bjorn Ragnebrink, LFV director air cargo development since August 15, 2005.
-Including trucked air cargo, Stockholm Arlanda Airport however generated a total of 34,665 tonnes of air cargo in Q1, 2006, representing an increase by 4.14 percent, y-o-y.
-Turning to total annual figures for 2004 and 2005, Stockholm Arlanda handled a total of 141,395 tonnes of air cargo in 2005, up 6.8 percent, y-o-y.
In addition the airport generated a total of 27,114 tonnes of air mail in 2005, up 3.7 percent.
