Mar 10, 2006 (newstodate): The government of the Russian Sverdlovsk region is mulling plans for settting up a new regional airline.
The government is unhappy with the slow pace in replacing Soviet-built aircraft in the fleet of its local airline, Ural Air Lines.
Based on co-operation with VIM-Avia, the Sverdlovsk government is now in talks with a group of potential investors to back the formation of a new airline, to be based at Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport.
Ural Air Lines currently operates a total of 23 aircraft including IL-86, TU-154M, TU-154B, and AN-24 with an average fleet age of 15 years, and plans to add three A320 aircraft on a lease contract in 2006.
