Mar 22, 2006 (newstodate): The market for brokers to provide uplift capacity to military customers is changing after the recent NATO contract with Antonov Airlines and Volga-Dnepr for AN-124-100 uplift capacity.
But even so there is still a role to play for the broker.
-The huge AN-124 that we also use appeals to large-scale operations, but for smaller, continous logistics operations other aircraft types are more commercially viable, leaving a role for the broker, says Juhani Peltonen, Logimix CEO.
-We are currently operating up to 10 AN-26 cargo flights per week from Orebro, Sweden, to Afghanistan, and we also serve Danish and Finnish military customers.
-Few years back we had nearly 80 percent of the military cargo market, but competition has become almost maniac driven by a host of adventurous players who will snatch a business at any cost and at any rate, vainly hoping to be able to increase prices at a later stage. Which never happens.
-For a serious company aiming at a future in this business, two things matter. One is the ability to contantly rethink services and concepts, the other is a strong network and systems to sustain quality operations, says Mr Peltonen.
