Mar 24, 2006 (newstodate): Kaunas Airport, Lithuania, has opened a tender for expansion of its passenger terminal.
The tender will close on April 5, and plans are to expand the current passenger terminal by 2,500 sq m, with financing to come from EU funds and from the Lithuanian state.
-We are seeing a strong increase in passenger figures, up 180 percent in 2005 to 80,000, and among airline operators, says Jurate Baltrusaityte, Kaunas Airport chief of marketing department.
-From March 29, Ryanair that already operates a route to London, adds new routes to Stockholm Skavsta and Dublin, and the Danish operator DAT will start a four times weekly route to Billund, Denmark, from April 14, she says.
-Through effective planning and distribution of departure and arrival times we are percectly able to handle the increasing number of passengers through 2006, and the new expanded terminal wil become operational from summer 2007.
