Mar 20, 2006 (newstodate): After a fierce confrontation, tension has eased between JAT and THY over rights to traffic the route between Belgrade and Istanbul.
JAT has so far been alone in serving the route, but Turkish Airlines announced its plan to start operations from March 10.
Initially, the Serbian side refused to grant THY with landing rights, leading the Turkish authorities to ban JAT from landing at Istanbul Airport.
The issue was, however, solved before this weekend, and THY will thus operate B737-800 and A320-200 aircraft thrice weekly alongside JAT's five-times weekly ATR-72 aircraft, to be upgraded to Boeing 737-300 from March 26.
