Mar 23, 2006 (newstodate): JAT is continuing its preparations for opening flights from Belgrade to Toronto and New York from this summer - but the issue is still not settled.
Serbia is rated Category 2 by the US FAA, and thus not allowed to start up new scheduled flights to US destinations with aircraft on its own roster.
The license to serve USA and Canada thus hinges on the next revision of the FAA safety listing and a Category 1-status for Serbia.
A JAT airline spokesperson confirms that JAT is still waiting, and does not expect the final decision before the end of April.
Sources say that JAT hopes to start flights to New York from May 15, and to Toronto from June 1.
