Mar 29, 2006 (newstodate): In 2005, Iceland's Keflavik Airport saw its cargo volumes up by 5.3 percent, driven by a 14.9 percent increase in imports.
In total the airport noted 57,157 tonnes of air cargo, of which 24,373 tonnes, or 42.6 percent, was import shipments.
Exports, however, dropped by 0.8 percent to 32,784 tonnes.
Compared to the year before, export cargo's share of the total volumes has dropped from 60.9 to 57.4 percent in 2005.
In 2005, Icelandair Cargo generated a total of 36,000 tonnes of cargo, up only 0.5 percent, indicating that other carriers, primarily integrators, have increased their share of the market.
