Mar 7, 2006 (newstodate): Finnair will receive its first Airbus A340-300 in June this year, and will introduce it on its Far Eastern routes by July.
The airline has signed a MoU on the acquisition of an Airbus A340-300 currently in the service of Virgin Atlantic.
-It is imperative for our growing traffic to have extra capacity by the summer. The Airbus A340 was a natural choice after we made our decision to renew our long-haul fleet with Airbus aircraft, says Maunu Visuri who heads the Airbus A340 acquisition programme at Finnair.
In December, 2005, Finnair announced its decision to acquire 12 Airbus wide-body aircraft, including nine A350-900 and three A340-300 aircraft, with options for another four A350 and an unannounced number of A340 aircraft.
The carrier will receive its first "own" Airbus A340-300 aircraft in 2007 and 2008, and the eight MD-11 aircraft will be phased out from the Finnair fleet by 2012.
