Mar 31, 2006 (newstodate): Airbus' decision to change the cockpit of the forthcoming A350 from A330 to A380 standards will delay the deliveries to customers, including Finnair, by some six months.
Finnair planned to take delivery of its first of nine Airbus A350 by 2011, but the date has now been delayed till 2012.
This will keep the MD-11 running for a correspondingly longer period of time with Finnair.
Finnair took in its seventh MD-11 in December last year, but the implementation of Finnair's new flatbeds has so far kept one MD-11 out of operations. This phase is expected to end in a few months when all aircraft will be in commercial service.
To cope with the increasing demands for capacity, Finnair also acquired one ex-Virgin Airbus A330-300 that will arrive late May and be introduced on the route net by early July.
Finnair will then receive its first of three A340-300 aircraft from Toulouse from next year.
