Mar 27, 2006 (newstodate): Meeting today in Brussels, the EU transport ministers will once again address the pertinent issue of Russian overflight charges.
Reviewing the status, the ministers will conclude that little progress has been achieved on the Russian side to abolish the prohibitive charges levied on airlines using the new cross-Siberian airlanes providing fuel and time saving air transport between the Far East and Europe.
Besides the lack of progress on the Russian side, the EU transport ministers will now act on the effects from linking Russia's wish to join the WTO with EU's wish to speed up the negotiations with Russia over Siberian overflight charges.
It is thus expected that the transport ministers will ask the EU Commission to take up the issue with Russia.
