Mar 6, 2006 (newstodate): Despite comparatively shorter trucking leadtimes to Scandinavian traffic hubs, Estonian forwarding and logistics company Schenker still mostly prefers traffic to go via continental hubs like Frankfurt.
-While trucking to Frankfurt requires some 2.5 days, the abundance of cargo capacity at a large airport like Frankfurt means more competitive rates and more connections, compared to the less-competitive Scandinavian airport, says Haiti Arendi, Schenker Estonia air- and seafreight director.
-But of course connections via Scandinavian airport remain an option, depending on the requirements of the shipments, he says.
Schenker Estonia is also seeing air cargo volumes up so far this year, both in exports and imports that constitute the bulk of the shipments.
Adding two more staff in 2005, Schenker Estonia now has three employees working in its air cargo exports dept, and five in its imports dept, which secures a leading position in Estonia in terms of air cargo staff.
