Mar 15, 2006 (newstodate): Plans for an Emirates SkyCargo freighter at Helsinki from this spring seem to be wishful thinking.
Claiming that these plans are mere "speculations", Emirates confirms that talks are routinely being conducted with Finnair Cargo, but the project is not on the agenda.
Earlier this year Finnish industry sources claimed that a freighter operation between Dubai and New York would be routed via Helsinki, rather than Gothenburg, to serve Finnish exporters notably in the telecom industry.
Emirates today operates two weekly Boeing 747-200F freighter services between Dubai and New York through Gothenburg, Sweden.
The first operation started on September 13, and the second was added already on November 20, 2003.
Both operations are in cooperation with Finnair Cargo.
