Mar 13, 2006 (newstodate): Bulgaria plans to offer more military air basis for commercial aviation, including cargo, purposes.
Incouded in the current scheme are some 20 now-defunct air force bases that may attract investor attention as multi-modal cargo and logistics centers.
A list will shortly be published with names and details on the first batch of ex-military airports, to probe potential domestic and foreign investor interest.
Among the ex-AFBs, decommissioned in 1998, is Straklevo Air Base with a 2,500 m runway, and located in Northeastern Bulgaria, close to the border with Romania and the Rousse port on the Danube.
