Mar 23, 2006 (newstodate): One third of the stake in the Faro Islands' state-owned Atlantic Airways will be put up for sale in 2006.
The islands' government is has passed a resolution on this, and the parliament is expected to finalise the issue at its meeting in April, preparing for sales to be opened by the autumn.
In this coming summer program the airline will operate 40 weekly rotations between the Faro Islands and Denmark including four daily flights to Copenhagen Airport, nine weekly flights to Billund Airport, and two weekly flights to Aalborg Airport.
Atlantic Airways also operates flights between the Faroe Islands and Iceland, Norway, and to London via the Shetland Islands, with full traffic rights between London and the Shetlands and serving as a UK domestic flight.
The carrier now operates five BAe 146 aircraft, and has started evaluations for future replacement of this aircraft with Airbus A319, Boeing 737-700 and Embraer 190 as viable candidates.
