Feb 16, 2006 (newstodate): Malmoe-Sturup Airport, in southern Sweden, is preparing for the construction of a new air cargo terminal to be ready by spring or summer, 2007.
-As cargo volumes are increasing at a very fast rate, the airport's cargo operators have by far outgrown the current premises, and the need for new, modern facilities is imminent, says Lennart Bjork, Malmoe-Sturup airport manager.
-We expect a decision to be made within one month by NAP, owned by Swedish CAA and Airis, for construction of a new 10,000 sq m cargo terminal, designed to faciliate future expansions to twice or thrice the size of the initial module, he says.
In 2005, Malmo Sturup Airport generated a total of 31,160 tonnes of air cargo, up 15.3 percent on the preceding year, primarily by integrators UPS and TNT.
