Feb 28, 2006 (newstodate): NAMSA, NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency, has inked a contract with Ruslan to provide military AN-124 uplift capacity over the next three years.
The contract is signed on behalf of the NATO member countries in the Strategic Airlift Interim Solution, SALIS, and on the Russian side the Ruslan company has set up a special division, Ruslan-SALIS, as the signatory.
Under the contract two AN-124 aircraft will be permanently stationed from next month at Leipzig Halle Airport, while another four AN-124 aircraft will be allocated upon request as needed by the NATO and EU members of SALIS.
The contract will expectedly be prolonged until 2012 when NATO will receive a number of Airbus A400M aircraft to provide the alliance with strategic cargo capacity.
