Feb 9, 2006 (newstodate): Another chapter entailing new delays is now opening in the never-ending story of Sofia Airport's modernisation.
The Austrian construction company Strabag has requested a fresh financial injection into the project due to increasing steel prices.
The company has also requested a further postponement of the completion of the passenger terminal after a recent collapse of parts of the structure.
The current deadline is August 12, 2006, and that was in itself a postponement by almost a year.
Also the airport runway construction project has been repeatedly delayed for a variety of reasons.
The new 3,600 m runway should have been ready for operations from February, 2006, but it, too, will be delayed, sources say.
